When it was built
Attested as a seat of learning from at least the 6th–8th century CE; the stone shrine as surveyed is of the 8th century.
What happened to it
Successive damage through the medieval period and the 2005 Kashmir earthquake left the ancient shrine in ruins.
Where it stands today
A new Sharada temple was consecrated in March 2023 at Teetwal on the Indian side of the LoC. The ancient Peeth, across the LoC in POK, remains inaccessible from the Indian side.
